Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has appeared on film and TV, as well as on stage is best known for portraying Teri Joseph, the fiery lawyer in the show Showtime's Soul Food. The family was born in Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until the age of seven. Contractor was a seasoned traveler who enjoyed traveling around the globe and in a wide range of cultures at a very young age. She attended an boarding school in London between the ages of 7 and 9. Then, the family moved from London in Toronto, Canada. Contractor was an outstanding pupil in Toronto and was trained as a classical ballet dancer. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, a fine arts institution which focuses on theatre and dance. Contractor, who had been dancing for nearly 10 years when she started when she decided to focus on acting. She received a full-scholarship grant to pursue a degree at the University of Toronto after graduating. She earned a master's degree in theatre and also double-majored in sociology and psychology. After one semester at the University, Contractor went to an open audition for the production Pericles at the world-class famous, world-class Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and landed the role of lead. After 92 performances, she received praise from the audience. The production was recognized as the top production in Canada by critics. She accepted the invitation to attend Stratford's conservatory. This is a course that allows only four males and eight women can take a 20 weeks crash course of classical theater. The actress's spot in the next play season was secured and she was offered the part of Hermia.
